Marginal discrepancy in base metal alloys: A systematic review and meta analysis

چکیده
The marginal fit is one of the most important criteria for long-term success of all-ceramic restorations.[1] When considered clinically, a casting becomes acceptable only when the marginal gap between the prepared tooth and the casting is indiscernible both visually and also while probing. The marginal gap may lead to increased retention of plaque. This changes the distribution of microflora as the marginal gap becomes a protective space for microorganisms. This paves way for secondary caries and periodontal disease. Furthermore, microleakage under the restoration may cause endodontal inflammation and hypersensitivity.[2-4] The marginal fit of restorations is governed by many factors such as perceptive tooth preparation, accurate impressions, type of casting metal used, precision casting, and careful finishing.[3] The crowns and copings are manufactured either from base metal alloys ABSTRACT

Background and Aim: An important criterion for success assessment of implant-supported prostheses is marginal fit. Vertical and horizontal discrepancy can result in loosening of the prosthetic screw, crestal bone resorption, peri-implantitis and loss of osseointegration. Despite careful attention to waxing, investing, and casting, marginal discrepancies are inevitable. The aim of this study was...

Statement of Problem: Nowadays economical issues on high gold alloys have changed the practice of metal-ceramic restorations toward base-metal alloys. Minalux is one of the base-metal alloys produced in Iran. Marginal fitness is of high importance to be evaluated in dental alloys.Purpose: The aim of the present study was to compare the marginal adaptation of two base-metal alloys, Minalux (Mava...

It has been shown that noble alloys require metal collar to resist distortion when subjected to repeat firing cycle of porcelain. Metal collar is undesirable due to esthetic concerns. Since base metal alloys have superior physical properties, it seems that metal collar would not be necessary for obtaining better marginal adaptation of base metal crowns. The Purpose of this study was to evaluate...

Statement of Problem: In order to eliminate the esthetic problem of metal collar in porcelain fused to metal crowns various techniques, such as shoulder porcelain, have been suggested. Purpose: The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of repeated porcelain firing cycles on the marginal integrity of shoulder in porcelain fused to metal crowns, made of two kinds of alloys: noble and b...

OBJECTIVE The aims of the study are to assess the marginal accuracy of base metal and titanium alloy casting and to evaluate the effect of repeated ceramic firing on the marginal accuracy of base metal and titanium alloy castings. MATERIALS AND METHODS Twenty metal copings were fabricated with each casting material. Specimens were divided into 4 groups of 10 each representing base metal alloy...
